SUNDAY  SUNDAY AT POCONO DRAG LODGE VOLUME #1 #005

Located in Northeastern Pennsylvania the  Pocono Drag Lodge  (PDL) hosted drag racing from 1963 through 1971.  An interview with original track owner Joe Perugino brings out the story of how and why the track was built.  The story begins with Joe telling of how his relationship with the Northeast Timing Association and the staging of drags at the Forty Fort Airport led to the idea of building PDL.

The video then moves to the various eras at the track beginning with the first race and then progressing through the dragster era and finally the Southern Super Stock era.  During this 1963 to 1966 time frame various touring professionals came to PDL and you'll see  Red Lang's AA/FD,  The Casseday & Winward Brief Encounter Fuel Dragster , Joe Nocentino AA/FD,  TV Tommy Ivo AA/FD,  Butch Leal (Ford TBolt and  '65 AWB Plymouth),  Malcolm Durham (64 A/FX Chevelle),  Richard Petty (43 Jr. Cuda),  Jake King (64 TBolt)  and Good Ol Mr. Wilson's Z-11 '63 Chev  among others.  Local racers including:  Joe Amato,  Tim Richards,  Lee Malkemes,  Wally Bell,  Dizzy Dominick,  Jack Schaffer,  George Whalen and  Ted Fanucci  are also featured.  How about these car names:   Kay's Pizza,  The Miracle Mart Special,  Malfunction,  M & W Gulf,  The Timberman,  Al Johns Pontiac,  Glenwood Ford,  Walt's Motors,  A & A Speed Shop and the  Honesdale Honker

Selected interviews are intermixed with original movie footage of this golden era of drag racing.  Racing footage from other drag strips of the day is also included in the video.
